Introduction
Est. in 1951 as a pre-school and later grade school under the philosophy of Piaget, Highlands became a Montessori school after much study and by researching the results of children under the philosophy of Maria Montessori, particularly because of the logic and sequence of the curriculum towards the child's natural development.
The support to parents is always a part of our mission and in return, our strong independent Parent Group works closely with the administration and teachers to help us reach our goals and continuing progress. Our calendar is a 9-month school term and a 3-month summer camp program with many family socials throughout the year. Our student body consists of a diverse cultural mix and French and Spanish are taught as second languages. Extended hours are available on a limited basis. Uniforms are required for children in pre-primary and primary classes. Upon completing our primary program students have a strong foundation of skills, academic knowledge and the process of learning; preparing them for their advancement to many of Atlanta's best private schools, and other Montessori elementary schools and public schools. We invite your inquiries into our school. Please call 404-417-3399 to set up an appointment. We are a non-discriminatory student and employment organization. "Teaching, if it is to benefit the tender children, must be such as will help them to advance along the road to independence." Maria Montessori: Discovery of the Child, page 72 |
